Congrats to all the new parents of midsummer July babies!
Trevor Lowe born on July 18 in Toronto, ON
Elizabeth Ho born on July 26 at BC Women’s
Time sure is passing by quickly. It seems like eons ago when we first found out about the baby as well as others around who were expecting in the summer and now they are new parents enjoying their bundle of joy in their arms. I’ve entered Week 28 now and officially in my last trimester of gestation. I passed my gestational diabetes test which means no more chugging orange fizzy drink! The baby is an active one indeed. Last night, I was watching my tummy and one side was definitely sticking out like a leg stretching. I didn’t quite see the foot but it was bizarre enough to witness your own tummy look like it’s alien-possessed.
During our prenatal classes, I find the baby extra active. Sometimes I wonder if the baby is extra active because she can sense the other babies around her. I also find this when going to my yoga classes surrounded by other pregnant mommies.
Some interesting tidbits I’ve picked up from our prenatal class:
· Have you ever heard of a breast crawl? This is where a new baby finds their way to their mother’s breast? Watch it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3oPb4WdycE
· During a Caesarian birth, the Anesthesiologist has the most power in the surgery room; even the OB is second in line in terms of the surgery room pecking order. The Anesthesiologist can determine who gets to be in the surgery room along with mother.
Another summer long weekend is coming up. We’ll finally have a good two days to work on the downstairs renovations so let’s hope for some progress!
Anyone have advice to pass on to me about when babies should wear shoes like Robeez or booties? Baby will be born in October so I’m guessing for the first few months, it will be mostly socks that she will need until spring comes when we get to go out more. Any other good recommendations on good baby shoes? I can’t believe they are $30 a pair!
Happy 150th BC!

Welcome third trimester
Week 27: 13 more weeks to go (eeks!)
In the past 4-5 days, there has been dramatic increase in movement with the baby. I am starting to notice defined waking and quiet periods which are all a few hours apart from each other. Most noticeable movements happen during the afternoons at work, mornings at church and evenings! They don't just feel like rhythmic hiccups anymore but squirming sensations, tickling from the inside and just some hard kicks that don't really hurt but have on occasion, startled me and is just plain uncomfortable. Last night, Rob and I were watching Batman Begins and it was insane how much the baby was moving during the movie. Perhaps she likes Batman or the sound was too loud and she was kicking to get us to turn the volume lower =)
The past few weeks have all been about the baby, more specifically preparing for the birth of the baby. Both the yoga and prenatal classes have focused on the physiology of birth, the most effective positions to be in during the different stages of labour and how your birthing partner can also be an important part in the whole process. What amazes me so much is how the body systems works in such harmony with each other to ease (or squeeze) the baby through the body. How the heck do most babies know to position themselves perfectly where the pelvis is at its widest in diameter and then know to twist themselves in a way so the shoulders go through the same widest diameter of the pelvis?!
I'm starting to feel antsy about how little time we have left. Hopefully the renovations downstairs will be completed by August so we have time to clean up the baby room and furnish it before the babe arrives. We still haven't gotten a mattress yet and none of the little things relating to feeding, bathing and diapers have been dealt with but I figure all will be ready by September. I'm still sleeping quite well so can't imagine how women deal with insommia and have to still work a full-time job while pregnant. My last day of work is October 10 which gives me just over a week before the baby comes. I couldn't decide if I wanted more time off to prep and relax before the baby came or not...we'll see how it goes.
Some good tips I've picked up in the last while relating to birthing:
-drink lots of water, exercise often and eat well
-squatting is a very comfortable and effective birthing position
-bring familiar things with you to the hospital so you can birth in a relaxed and comfortable environment
-good to practice with Rob the different birthing positions so we'll know what to try during labor
-how to estimate where the baby is lying inside
I haven't had the chance to take any photos yet but we welcomed new flora into our household. Kermodi was having a 15% off sale on all their plants so my nesting self decided to pick up this neat looking grape-like plant that I have been eyeing since my last visit to the store. It changes in color depending on the amount of light it gets and the tiny grape stems germinate.
Rob is heading to Vegas for the weekend so it's going to be a girly weekend for me =)
Ciao!

Thinking baby names among other things
Welcome week 26! I am nearing the end of my golden period as an incubating baby mama. It dawned on me that I only have 3.6 months left till the baby is out and there is still so much to do! Quite a scary but exciting thought. I can't wait to meet the baby and be able to hold her in my arms but on the other hand, all the hard work with the labor and being first-time parents is very daunting.
All is well during our visit with Dr. Oakes. The baby's heartbeat is 155 and I have to schedule for an appointment to do the gestational diabetes testing this weekend. I hope I don't fail the test otherwise it will mean drinking a lot of orange carbonated drink (argh!). We also began our pre-natal classes through Douglas College tonight. It was nice to meet all the couples expecting around the same time as us but at the same time, it is a bit odd for me to be surrounded by pregnant women all in the same room. I think it has to do with the overload of hormonal women in the room that make it a bit odd for me. The first class wasn't too over-the-top with info that I didn't already know but I think it is good for Rob to be in this type of class to meet with other soon-to-be fathers and to learn about the whole birthing and baby process.
So baby names...I have been asked whether we have thought of baby names yet. Of course we have but I don't want to pinpoint a specific name until I meet my little baby. However, I have found some very interesting baby name websites that have intriged me for hours browsing through names so wanted to share them with everyone.
Baby Name World (http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Noah.html)
-Not only does this site give you the meaning of the name but those with that name can take a survey with a series of questions on whether they liked their name, whether they were bullied and if people misspelled or pronounced their name etc. This is where I found out that the girl name 'Rhea' is actually an easy name to make fun of because it is the ending of diarrhea and other possible STDs
Baby Name Wizard (http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager)
-Just by typing in a name, you can see how popular that name has been over the past 2 centuries. It is an amazing software application that calculates popularity of the name so it's pretty fun to play with.
Oh and we have found a doula! Look forward to working with Justine of Cherish Birthing in the next while. Her philosophy is based on the Birthing from Within book by Jan England which I borrowed from the library so that's next on my reading list among a few others I'm hoping to get to before 3.5 months are up. Fun times and I swear more intense than wedding planning for sure. I guess the wedding planning was a precurser to preparing for parenthood (a lifetime of learning)
Enjoy the summer!

NKOTB flashback
Week 25: Baby has been much more active these past weeks, with tiny kicks and tickling from the inside. I find it quite distracting at work which is when she is extra active but it's all good. She also likes to move when I have my laptop on my lap and music playing and when I drink anything cold. Time is flying by quick that I have about 3 months left! So far so good =)
Anyways my coworker sent me an entry from http://www.laineygossip.com/ where she blogged about her 45 min TV interview with the New Kids on the Block! I had such a good time reading it, it inspired me to write tonight haha

In fact, I just spent the last hour browsing the web to find this TV interview and voila, I found it! So for all you NKOTB fans back in the preteen era, here's one to reminise about. Seriously, I felt like I was 13 again...they were my first love..sigh haha
