Help! Snowbound!

Wow...so much snow has fallen! We measured over a foot of snow on our deck and more is now falling as I type. So much so that when Rob went to get some groceries tonight, we found out that our Corolla can't get out of our backlane so we are stuck at home! I love it when it snows. However, it's causing havoc on our Christmas celebrations this year. There's been two get-togethers with friends that have been cancelled already and I have no idea if we'll make it out to our aunt's place for Christmas this year.

Sofia is too young to enjoy the wintery wonderland this year. We did take her out for some fresh air yesterday when the weather cleared up.

I wish everyone a very lovely white Christmas and Happy 2009! I know we will =)

The best birthday present

Daddy Rob received a wonderful birthday gift today from Sofia. She gave us sleep! Yes for the first time in 7 weeks, she slept from 12:30am till 6am! I got some pretty good snooze in and after we fed her, I didn't know whether to go back to sleep or not because I was pretty awake while the birthday boy slept for few more hours =) I'm don't want to get used to the extra sleep just yet as I'm sure there will be many sleepless nights ahead of us but boy was last night enjoyable.

We took Sofia to Metrotown hoping to do some Christmas shopping as well as have our pictures taken with Santa. I'm expecting only mall madness around this time of the year but it wasn't that bad. Sofia was so good in the stroller and it's amazing how much she's grown in just 7 weeks. She was wide awake and being at the mall was such a new thing for her that she just kept staring at the bright lights around her and absorbing it all in. I am finally starting to enjoy my time with Sofia now: i'm more comfortable feeding; she's more alert and interacting with us and really developing and showing so much character at such a young age. What a perfect gift for Christmas this year =)

Tonight we are dropping Sofia with my parents for the first time so that Rob and I can go celebrate his birthday by enjoying a dinner at the Keg without gulping it all down in 5 mins.

Sofia the bobblehead

Sofia is 6 weeks old. It feels like I've had her longer than that but that could be due to sleep deprivation. On Monday, we had our most difficult night with her; she was fussy the whole night and into the wee hours was wide awake and fussy. Rob couldn't put her to sleep so it was my turn. It was 6am and finally I was able to put her to sleep in my sling (my lifesaver so far). However, when I tried to put her in bed, she woke up and cried some more so in the sling she went again. This time, noting that it was almost 7am and really wanting some shut eye, I got her to sleep and then went to the couch to sleep with her for a few hours.

"If you can't beat them, join them!" =)

After that awful night, we have seen some changes in Sofia. She is more alert more often, giving us tons of smiles and coos throughout the day. It's so wonderful to see her smile while she's awake since her routine consisted of sleep-cry-feed cycle for the first few weeks. Perhaps she was going through a growth spurt that night. Her neck is more sturdy now and she is able to hold her head up for periods of time but it means lots of jerky head movements like a bobblehead! I find it more difficult to hold her with one arm while I try to do other things with the other hand because her head is bobbling around from side to side.

Her smiles and coos are enough for me to want to give the world to her and how could I be mad at such a sweet little thing?

Today was my first experience at driving somewhere with Sofia on my own (farther than 5 mins to the community center). I had some trouble with the stroller but she was close to being an angel through it all so phew! We went to our first Christmas party hosted by Sharon, Trav and Nora. It was fun to see all the mums and babies (Sofia was the youngest). She slept through half of it and was drowsy for the rest of the time. Oh well, she will enjoy Christmas more the next time around.

Forgot to mention that I've started trying out the sample cloth diapers we bought to see which ones we like. I've used them on her mainly in the daytime and so far, I like it! Now I need to determine which diapers to use and how much I'll have to get to enable me to put her in them throughout the day. I can't believe how cute cloth diapers are and how easy they are to use.

Christmas is near. I haven't really shopped for gifts. I don't expect that we will be crazy busy this Christmas but it will be indeed one memorable one to share with our firstborn baby.
