Gloomy Friday

I'm having one of those blah days, the sky is grey and I don't feel like doing anything. Mondays were always the blah days for me, not Friday but today is different. I guess what they say is true that if you start your day off crappy, then it hovers over you for the rest of day. In my case, I started the morning with breast milk spraying all over the couch. Thank God it's leather =P

So to cheer myself up, I uploaded some recent photos of Sofia and here are a few good ones of Rob and his little girl.

The Perfect Mugshot

A few weeks ago, I took Sofia to get photos taken to include with her passport application. I had to renew mine so thought I might as well get hers done too. We went to Sears and I had to put her on a stool and put my hand on her back to support her. Her first shot was perfect so that was easy. phew! When I saw the photo, I couldn't stop laughing. It captured the essence of our little miss cutie petutie: the round face, the big apple cheeks, button nose and was the perfect mugshot. I had to remember this photo so Rob scanned it so we would have a memory of it forever.

stunning photo...we will never understand

I have been struggling from the trauma of the stitches I received after childbirth. I don't feel the stitches on the outside but there is still discomfort on the inside so last week, I went to visit my OB to get it checked out. Turns out there is some scar tissue that healed funny so she had to remove some of it. She also mentioned that my muscles were so tight and tightened even from the slightest touch (due to the trauma I guess). I know that this will be a challenge to get through the mental fear of pain which is the cause of the tightening and discomfort. Not an easy task to overcome.

And then I came across the above photo and article from the NY Times which talked about these young women living in Tanzania who developed fistula, an internal injury due to prolonged labor which leaves them incontinent (can't hold their pee). Such injuries don't happen in the developed world nowadays as c-sections are more prevelent to prevent birthing of large babies or wrong positioning which make it dangerous for the baby and mom. However, as the story goes, these women do not have the option of c-sections so develop fistulas and are shunned by society. How sad that in today's modern world, such incidents still occur. Read the article if you aren't too grossed out by the topic.

Non-baby babbles

I was showing my co-worker what a ranunculus flower looked like (I have those in my hanging wooden planter right now) and came across some beautiful photos on Flickr. Many know I have a love for photography and appreciating good art when I see it. One specifically caught my eye so enjoy! There is something very abtract about the photo; makes me wonder if it's even real or fake as I have never seen one with a stem so long, it can be put in a vase. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sabinche/2450764431/in/pool-ranunculus

Rob and I have been hooked on the sitcom show, "How I Met Your Mother." It is a show about friends (like Friends) and instead of a coffee shop, they hang out at their local pub. It's funny and the type of humor our generation can relate to at some level plus one of the characters, Robyn is from Canada so there are frequent references and jokes aimed at Canadians. One of the friends is Neil Patrick Harris, yes the guy from Dogie Howser M.D. This one time, he even made fun of himself by typing in his thoughts at the end of the show on his blog. Also Alyson Hannigan from American Pie (the girl who played the flute) is in it. And tonight was Thursday so it was another heart-wrenching Grey's Anatomy that left me wanting more =) As you can guess, it was an relaxing night of TV and lounging.
