I've heard so many rave about Rodney's Oyster Bar in Yaletown so took the opportunity tonight to celebrate Rob's birthday at Rodney's. We were really looking forward to it cuz we both LOVE seafood and I have to say, they did not disappoint. My mouth is salivating thinking about the freshly shucked oysters....
My brother told us to go during happy hour from 3-6pm to get $1.50/pc raw oysters and other specials so at 5:30pm, we sat down for a wonderful evening. It was a happening place. More and more people came as the night went on (this is on a Wed. evening). The atmosphere was relaxed and made us think we were in the East Coast eating at a popular seafood shack, not in trendy Yaletown!
So onto the food... We started off with an order of raw oysters and steamed mussels. I've tried raw oysters before but it has been a long time so it was like I was a 'raw oyster virgin' again (there is indeed such a term). We tried the various hot sauces but in the end, we preferred one that wasn't as hot and more like yummy cocktail sauce. It was sooooooo goood that we ordered another plate of oysters but worried that we were ODing on them. We also tried their New England Clam Chowder and crab cakes.
Our initial waiter wasn't very good so it took awhile for our food to arrive. Soon after we were informed by another waiter that he would be taking care of us and that there was another reservation on our table so we had to be out in 45 mins. We only had our first order of oysters so our awesome waiter #2 sped up our orders and took very good care of us. To make up for the inital poor customer service, he didn't charge us for half of our orders so our amazing meal was half the price it would have cost for all the food we ordered and we were stuffed and satisfied to the brim. It was a good night.
Afterwards, we took a walk around Yaletown to let the food settle (with a Starbucks in hand). It was a nice, warm evening. We reminisced about our late night MJ sessions and dragonboat pre-clubbing nights at RBF's place. Boy have things changed now.
Happy Birthday Rob! We had a nice evening sans baby. More good news is Sofia is on the mend and was more her normal self than the past week. yay for the parents!
